Phuket Soccer 7s 2009, Plate Cup Winners!
Phuket Morning Star won the “Plate” Cup in this years Phuket Soccer 7s by beating “Sydney Real” 3-0 in the final. For those wondering what the “Plate” cup means, its the “middle” cup because we lost the main Cup quarterfinals 1-2 vs Footy Japan who went on to win the entire tournament by beating ex-pros “Team Bondi” 2-0 in the final!
Phuket Spicy 7s!
This years Phuket Spicy 7s was won by our home team PFC!
Toughest opponents twere he Hanoi drink team who we drew against in the group stages, but beat them on sudden death in the finals after a scrappy, but well-earned goal from Cyril. The semi-finals saw us beat Alberto’s thai all-star team 4-0, which must have been our best game of the tournament. Top-scorer was Ian Readings with total of 4 goals. See all our results below:

Andaman Soccer 7′s
Last weekend saw the Andaman soccer 7′s. PFC Open team won the Plate Final, while PFC Masters team made it to the Bowl Final.

The friendly game between Phuket FC and the team from South Africa ended 3-1 in favor of the home team. Cudos to the South-African team though, who sported a higher average age but often played out the home boys.
Premiershit 2008
On my short stay in Norway this summer, I played in this years premiershit football tournament where all teams pick names from the English League. Our team, Port Vale, only made it to the 1/8 finals, where we lost 0-1 to the team that made it to the final. Remind me next year, that if you want to win something, make sure to not make a team strictly with your best buddies. See a few photos below(more in the gallery):

Tesco Bangkok Soccer 7s
Below, you will find a report from Ian Readings Phuket team “Spiders from Mars” and their escapades in this years Tesco Lotus Bangkok Soccer 7s, which amongst others, featured ex-pro’s Ian Rush, Viv Anderson, Peter Reid and Steve Coppell:

The boys this year made up of Soony, Ian, Higgy, Andy Phi Phi, James, Marquis, Gary (and with some help from, Martin, Mike and Michel), went to Bangkok did the usual thing and got far, far too drunk the first night in Gulliver’s, Q Bar and the Spice Club alike.
Saturday
First game with everyone very hung over, we sneaked a 1-0 victory against The Crossbar. The 2nd game and we won 2-0 over John Smiths and the 3rd game we won 3-0 over Harrow International School. A milder evening in, followed.
Sunday
Our confidence high, and then we met the Footy Japan FC. We drew nil all and it went to penalty shootout. The ever so reliable left foot of Ian and right foot of Higgybotham blew our chances with the oversmily goalkeeper from Footy Japan FC who pulled off two great saves. We were out, and we hadn’t conceded a goal. The moral of the story is never put two English men in your penalty line up and never stay too sober the night before.
The Crossbar FC who we played in first game defeated beat the All Stars made up of Rushy, Reid, Anderson, Shebby and Masefield in the other QF. This was a good match to watch, with the normally ever so eloquent Andrew Lecci, ESPN host, screaming the words “ Cu*t at The Crossbar’s centre forward. Peter Reid taking someone’s tooth out too ! Brilliant stuff.
A good day then followed, lots of beers, ending in a great dinner at the Conrad and some very alcohol inspired tales by Peter Reid and Viv Anderson and Ian Rush, with Steve Coppell in a very dodgy shirt in the corner. Lots of beer, a jolly footy crowd, and sun………All set in the City of Angels …….it’s a hard one too beat.
SIA International Airlines Cup 2008
For this years international airlines tournament at Surakul stadium, Phuket were allowed to put in a team mixed from Thai VIP’s and our own Phuket team.
